 kind of natural light source

In order to use natural lighting systems in buildings optimally, we need to be identified with several types of natural light sources which can be classified into three types, namely:

Sunlight

Sunlight is direct sunlight with high levels of light. Direct sunlight sprays can be used for many purposes such as drying clothes, but they are not good for directing human activities because they can cause overheating.

Daylight

Daylight is sunlight that has spread in space, is refracted by the layers of the earth's atmosphere so that the light intensity is lower. Daylight is the type of light that is best used as main lighting during the day because it is bright enough, able to display true colors and is not too hot.

Reflected light

Reflected light is sunlight that has been reflected through various objects around the building, it could be due to the reflection from the lake around the building or the reflection from other buildings.

Thus the discussion of natural lighting systems, then we will discuss artificial lighting systems as follows:

Artificial lighting systems are light mechanisms produced by light sources other than natural light (sun), but the light comes from human works in the form of lamps that function to illuminate the room as a substitute if sunlight is not available.

Before discussing artificial lighting systems, we must first know the various types of lamps that are often used as artificial lighting. Please friends follow the link below:

Types of lamps, their advantages and disadvantages

Artificial lighting can function both day and night making it ideal for main lighting in the home. But in contrast to natural light sources, artificial light produced by lamps from electric currents is something that pays. Most lamps do not kill germs like natural light, if possible, it is advisable to maximize natural lighting systems.

Artificial light that is not good, of course, will interfere with our daily activities, for example where we work. In fact, there are times when good artificial light will enhance our activities at work when compared to when we are active in daylight (natural).

Artificial lighting systems are categorized in many ways, one of which is based on the placement of the light source and the direction of the artificial lighting. Based on this, there are 2 types of artificial lighting systems, namely direct lighting systems and indirect lighting systems.

Direct lighting system

The direct lighting system is the placement of lights that directly illuminate the desired area or part of the space. This system is usually used in activities that require high light such as reading and writing desks, workspaces, sewing machines and so on.

Indirect lighting system

Indirect lighting system is the placement of lights other than in the area or part of the room that you want to illuminate. For example, placing a lamp under the table, behind a lamp cabinet that highlights the wall and others. The goal is that the eyes are not too glare, this is used in rooms with relaxing activities such as living room lights, night lights, and others.

Talking about direct and indirect lighting systems, in this case there are three types of lamp placement, namely ambient light, task light and accent light. I have discussed everything in the following link:

It should also be borne in mind that artificial lighting systems can be adjusted using different types of lights. The greater the power of the lamp, the brighter the light. However, every room requires a different light intensity. For example, a reading room needs much more light so that people can see the writing, on the other hand a relaxed family room requires less light intensity.

Thus regarding natural lighting systems and artificial lighting systems in buildings, as a home owner or building designer, they should know when to use a natural lighting system and when to use an artificial lighting system. Hopefully this article can be useful and can add insight.
